It's a biopic about the late, great, much missed Ian Dury. Andy Surkiss (Gollum in LotR) plays Dury. I'm looking forward to seeing it. jpr and Lion would probably enjoy it, too.

I'd certainly like to see it - but I know already that I wouldn't approve of anyone taking Ian Dury's role. Nobody can do that. However, I trust it's based on reality and won't just go the shock-horror route - that bloke had such a lot of talent, know-how - he deserves to be shown in his true colours. Let us know your verdict Beds - if it's garbage I won't bother.

I'll let you know, jpr. I've seen pics of Surkiss in character, and he certainly looks uncannily like Dury. I hope I'm not disappointed.

Re: Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Gosh. Indeed.
I've been remembering going to see Kilburn & the High Roads (Dury's first band) in Hammersmith. What a mental night that was!
And nowadays there's Youtube. I think on balance I prefer my rock & roll retro.

I enjoyed it. I was always a fan anyway, and Serkis was very good in the role, even singing with the Blockheads. It concentrates on about 10 years of his life and shows his dark side, as well as the things he went through after the polio.
I think Mr B really took it to heart. When we stood up to leave, his knee had gone all stiff.........

I don't expect you know, but Mr B had an op on his knee a few weeks ago. In the film, every time Dury stood up, he had to click his caliper into place to straighten his leg. Only slightly funny maybe, but it amused me, so there.
