Well there is probably only one person this bares any relevance to so.

I can't make my mind up about this, normally i would be chomping at the bit, but for me and i know many others Empire was a let down, be that the software or the period of history the game represents like many others i can't put my finger on it.

I actually gone back to Rome and loving it. I may wait and see how well this runs, AV do you know if it is still the Steam full download licence to run this game or is it just part.?

There looks to be some massive improvements in this compared to ETW although I actually really like empire. The battles are going to be much bigger and better, with more variety on units and tactics. Its all on Steam again I think, although I have no problem with that, I admit I didnt like steam at first but ive had no problems with it for a long time now and it has automatically applied updates that have improved empire a million % from its release.

AV: I purchased Special Units East and West, can't find them anywhere, OK its only five or six pounds, the point is there is little recourse, i have been in touch with Steam support they say its been downloaded, they would and that's it.

For me its a mixture of both the historical period and the bugs, Napoleon would have to be a massive improvement to get me back on line, I made the suggesting a short while back (board) that they remake Rome the way they they rehashed MED 2, reply was cost was the only thing that prohibited it, for me its not just cost its there link with SEGA who are soulless in making there many millions from this epic.

Adrian: no need to ask mate, feel free to go and relieve yourself, take a hanky though. Wink

AV: jumped in today and purchased, paid top notch price (high street) so remains to be seen if this proves worthy.

I got my copy today aswell, did you get the imperial edition with the extra units.

Been playing it for a couple of hours, had it crash once on me but so far it seems a real improvement on the first one. Not sure how powerful your graphics card is but I have set everything to the very highest and its running smooth and looks brilliant. Playing as britain and so far only had naval battles which are massive improvement on etw.

Going to land an invasion force soon so will see how good the ground battles look.

AV: I got the standard issue, i did get a card which entitles me to a free download of HMS Elephant, historically a mammoth British war ship of the time with incredible fire power, that utilised a revolutionary boarding capability when boarding the French allowing British Marines to jump across the bows on mass.

I also of codeing for free download of:

5e Regiment de Hussards (French Napoleon)
8th Life Regiment (Prussia)
47th (Czech) Regiment of foot.
88th (Austrian) foot Connaught Rangers (Great Britian)
And the Pavlograd Hussars ( Russia) Fierce in the saddle.

Not played it yet.

Graphic Card, Nividia 260GTX Extreme 896mb, not the best, but no slouch and should be plenty for this. they are saying on the board that less power is needed for this than Empire.

Once i have got it loaded i will get back to you on it.

Yeh I got that card aswell, and I'm in the process of building it, apparently it was Nelson's flagship in the Battle of Copenhagen 1801, so a bit innacurate that I'm building in in 1805. Takes a massive 16 turns to build.

I agree about it needing less power, when ever I played ETW my machine gets fairly loud as all the fans kick in to full power and the processors are working overtime but I have noticed that while it does the same for this its not as loud, and the gameplay is a little bit smoother.

So far I'm well impressed with it, love the new features in the diplomacy tab, things that was missing from ETW like making a deal to get another nation to go to war with someone, and even being able to ask them not trade to with certain nations. Also a new feature I really like is when you capture a new land you have the option of allowing it to declare independance and become a protectorate of you, where they will trade and pay tribute to you aslong as you keep good relations from then on. Thats a massive improvement to the game.

AV: 16 turns...wow..some ship.

Its getting some reviews on the board, much much more positive than when Empire came out, then it almost went into meltdown, so yes much less power which is good, Very Happy its amazing how you can turn something around when it comes together well. Playing through the first stages last night, looks sharpe, good well formed graphics and roundedness to the figures, not flat, pleased at the moment......looks good. looks like they where ready to release this one.

indeed, even the first rate ships take 10 turns, it certainly makes you want to look after them more in battles, nothing worst then waiting 10 turns for a ship only to have its magazine hit and blow up in its first engagement.

Only downside for me is the limit on the actual gameplay of this, its Napolean total war, the aim is simple defeat France, of course you can play as the French and dominate the world but as a patriot to the empire I'm not going to be doing that. And thats where the game ends, how much gameplay it can really give once complete is limited. With ETW there is so much to do with the 3 theatres to fight across, so many more nations to be and different game strategies to follow be it world domination to empire building to trade domination. Its going to be hard to go back to that now that the bar has been raised so much by the graphics of this and the extra features.

Oh, it's a pernicious influence on our lives all right. Imagine, a game wher you GROW things and control a budget, as opposed to getting points for killing people. I think it should be part of the National Curriculum.

I'm thinking of launching an invasion of the Farmville, certainly the extra farmland will increase my trade and lesten the chance of famine amongst my growing empire. A small fleet of 3 3rd rate and 2 4th rate ships of the line should be enough to land an invasion force where General Malachite will lead 10 regemints of line infantry and 3 brigades of cavalry supported by 8 12lb cannons drawn by horse to take control of this valuable farmland. I expect light casualties, mainly pigs and sheep as the chickens horses and cows are all locked away in buildings now a days. My own personal farm will lend the support of several elephants in a night time raid of beds treasury to help fund the operation.....

Sounds good AV, I trust some of my line of foot will comprise of the Royal Highlanders, with there high moral (les likely to route) and dapper dress sense with there extraordinary bear skin feathered bonnets, the Brunswickers with their black togs and silver deaths head cap badges, ( all in Napoleon) and of corse Napoleons Old Guard, with there proud red-plumed bearskins and peacock emblem, me thinks we are more than enough to give beds and her rustic militia down on farm something to think about. Once we've taken the livestock we'll dine on fresh beef and quaff the finest wine in victory.
