In four years at Newcastle, Michael Owen started 65 games and scored 30 goals. He is reported to have cost the relegated club an eye-watering £41m in fees and wages. (Various)

That's a heck of a stat, isn't it?

yep.30 goals in 65 starts is a first class record.I'd like to see how much Alan Smith has been paid in his 60 odd games where he hasn't scored a single goal

65 starts in 4 years isn't so impressive though, is it?

I agree it isn't.Which is why it's a shame that he's suffered so many injuries because as his goalscoring rate shows, he's still Englands best goalscorer.A point that hasn't gone unnoticed by Fergie by the looks of things. The fecker, I was really hoping we'd be signing him but now Man U are sniffing that's al hope gone.

To be honest, I can't see past his injury record. We've had enough with Deano to want another sicknote on our books at UP.

There are a lot if IF's with Owen.

IF fergie can get him playing, IF he can keep fit, IF he can play with Rooney/Berbatov.

That said, a player of his goal scoring record on a free transfer is surely worth a try.

Also, will hopefully have Hargreaves coming back this season too

I am surprised Fergie is going to take a risk... But then agian he is on a free and I would guess his wages will be on a pay as you play basis.. So maybe it is worth it to see if he can recover some of the old magic...

I think he is slowing up personally aand his speed was most of his magic

Would've liked him at West Ham, but I didn't really expect it.

So, he's got a two-year deal at Old Trafford, good luck to him.
If all goes well fitness-wise ManU could well benefit from the Rooney-Owen link, they've played enough times for England to know each-others game. Well done Fergie (I don't often say that) - you might have also given the England team a timely lift.

jan without trying to defend owens record at newcastle. you only have to look at alot of their players that have had bad injurys since they joined them. its freaky the place must be cursed!

Cursed in many ways, I'd say.
