"Nowhere Boy" about John Lennon growing up was OK - should have been done in black'n white IMO to give it some authenticity and avoid the bright, clean school uniforms and polished black school satchel (I remember old, faded, wearing-out school uniforms and battered, scarred brown satchels) - but, having recently read Philip Norman's "John Lennon" the story seemed to be more-or-less factual. My missus thought it wasn't worth watching.
"Another Year" captures everything "just so" about English people getting old together, about sad people on their own, every cringeworthy exchange of small-talk - it seems so accurate I found it depressing in the extreme. It was all too close for comfort - I know/have known people just like the characters in the film and have heard all the silly little remarks, attempts at jokes, seen the unreal acts of over-friendliness - it gave me the creeps TBH but it's a very well-acted film. My missus thought it was a good film.
I've added the "my missus" bits to show that what I think doesn't necessarily mean much!!!!!!!!!

I realised that his cop buddy was the missing doctor pretty early on.

Although the way the film ended can still leave you in doubt to if he is an inmate or not, or if they have been drugging him and now make him believe he is an inmate, does he choose to be labotamised instead of be stuck there with them not letting him leave etc, after all there was nothing in the tower which he was convinced there was, but when they take him away in the end they take him to the tower.

A good first time watch, not exactly a film you can watch over and over though.

It didn't engage me much at all, sadly. But Shrek Forever After was a whole other kettle of fish. I liked that.

I've not seen that, but I do like animated films. The Curse of the Wererabbit is brilliant, and Finding Nemo is one of my favourite films of all time.

My needs are simple........

If you want the link, I find the new bbciplayer layout really annoying to find anything.

Oh. There didn't seem to be much point to the film once I'd realised that.
