Lonnie Donegan
I recently bought an anthology of Lonnie Donegan and whilst the stuff he moved on to after the Beatles took over the youth market in the early '60's - sort of cabaret numbers - is pretty ordinary his early "Skiffle" music still is as good as I remembered it to be.
If you consider how "Skiffle" influenced and encouraged the young Beatles and Rolling Stones (both Lennon and McCartney plus Keith Richards in his recent bio paid tribute to Donegan, his music and how it was made) we owe a massive vote of thanks to Lonnie Donegan for opening up the British music market - and his early stuff stands up well almost 60 years later!

My dad loved My Old Man's a Dustman. My mum, predictably, hated it.

He did a few jokey numbers and came across as a good showman as well but I think he interpreted old traditional folk and country numbers really well, moving them into a "Skiffle" style that made them interesting for a new public to appreciate.
