Makoun
Looks like he is off to Olypmiacos for the season on loan. Wonder who we are bringing in to replace him.
Any idea's?

Re: Makoun
I would've thought Palacios, but it seems he's going to Stoke

Rumours on newsnow.. Owen Hargreaves
I wouldn't mind Hargreaves on a pay as you play deal but the guy is injury prone and can not be Makouns replacement surely..
Had high hopes for Makoun. Don't feel like he has been given a fair crack but if he's off then Placios would be an ideal replacement..
Still wouldn't solve our creativity from midfield..
Despite everyone saying we need to cut back etc. Must admit I'm bitterly disappointed that we sold Young and Downing but didn't use the money to strengthen squad..
Re: Makoun
What we need is a player with a good engine in midfield, someone who can play a pass but also good enough to go retrieve the ball if he loses it, and could make a late run into the box if there are any deflections to bang in. This player was Stiliyan Petrov, 8 seasons ago, at Celtic - which is why MON bought him in the first place.
Owen Hargreaves would be a waste of a sub after he gets injured 5 minutes into his debut.
If Makoun is off to Olympiakos, McLiesh will definitely have a target in mind.
When it said we were linked with Darren Gibson, I was quite happy because he looked a talented CM, banged in a couple of goals last season from range, and looked a little bit in the mould of James Milner, but McLiesh was quick to write that rumor off, as well as the Parker one.
Who knows who's he going buy.

Re: Makoun
At least we are likely to see some action in the transfer market. I don't think we need to bring in a right back, we have Herd, Beye, Lichaj and Cueller.
We need two central midfielders though.

But can you see two coming in thou.. Think it will be a RB and if Makoun leaves possibly a CM..
Re: Makoun
Told you he'd be off.Admittedly it's 4 months earlier than I expected, but French players and imports from the French league do no work at Villa.Pires,Ginola,Six,Makoun,Houllier and Berson have all been Le Shit.N'Frogbia needs to improve 100% on his early form or he'll be another to add to the list of the useless garlic munchers.

Re: Makoun
Why let Makoun go without really giving him a chance, he only arrived last season into a new country and new league. We should at least give him 5-10 games see how he gets on then shift him in january if he cant settle. Typical naive villa

We don't have the luxury of giving a player a chance for 5 - 10 games to see if they adapt and fit in, we need the best 11 on the pitch and Makoun hasn't shown in any game he has played that he is good enough, also presume he isn't cutting it in training if he has been shipped out.

If thats the case then why do most villa fans complain that we dont sign foreign players?

Re: Makoun
Not bothered about Makoun leaving as long as someone else very good is coming in. We are fecked bigtime if our midfield isn't improved. Difficult to make comparisons with the MON era, his stragey was spend 10m on it. We can't do that any more.

Hargreaves is reportedly having a medical at Man City..
Do wonder what midfielder we are after and fingers crossed a quality one..
Also no ones come in for Scot Dann yet.. Wonder where he will end up..

Where's this being reported? That's genuinely shocked me

Re: Makoun
Mancini loves he's holding Midfielders thou.. Brt in Viera last season.. Hargreaves would be his replacement I guess..
Re: Makoun
^ Yeah he's having a medical now.
Hopefully we can nab Milner off them for a season. Wishful thinking I know.
