England squad predictions
So the England squad for the Euros is being announced on the 16th.
Who do we think will be in it? Any surprises?

Re: England squad predictions
Rumours that JT won't be included.. Will Hodgson have the balls to do that?

If he isn't picked, there'll be a players strike.
No one will leave their partners!

Re: England squad predictions
Carroll, Holt, and Crouch?? 3 players who offer the exact same thing. Holt being called up would just be desperatation.

Re: England squad predictions
Mine would be -
Goal keepers
Hart, Foster, Robinson
Defenders
Richards, Walker, Jagelka, Lescott, Cahill, Cole, Baines
Midfield
Milner, Young, Downing, Parker, Barry, Chamberlin, Adam Johnson, Gerrard
Forward
Rooney, Crouch, Welbeck, Defoe, Sturridge
Really struggling on the forward's front to be honest, the only ones I would take for definite are Crouch and Rooney.

My choice. Holt is second to Rooney as top English goalscorer. I believe he's earnt his chance and instead of trying to copy the Spanish style with inferior ability i think we should have a go at playing to our strengths. What have you got against Holt? Have you seen him play?

Re: England squad predictions
I've only seen Holt once this season and that was at Villa Park and I thought he was poor. Think Crouch and either Carol or Holt would work.

Yes, he's decent but nothing more than a put himself about a bit striker. He'd be constantly blown for fouls on the international stage, and the likes of Spain, Netherlands, Germany etc will deal with him easily. I'd have Sturridge, Rooney, Crouch, and Defoe.

Any thoughts on the rumour that West Ham have bid 4 million for Holt?
Desperation?

Poor windup attempt QB, you can do better. Calling up a 31 year old for a major tournament after just one season in the top flight would have been desperate. I wouldn't have him at West Ham either, Cole has earned himself the right to be our first choice striker.

Re: England squad predictions
It wasn't a wind up. It was a question of whether you rate his at club level even if you don't at international level. I like Holt and given the choice between him and Cole it's Holt all day long. He's also a proper Allardyce player. If he signs we'll revisit this thread after a few months and i'll wager Nolan is your top scorer benefitting from Holt's play. Cole has failed to ever establish himself as a Premiership striker.

Re: England squad predictions
Like I said, Cole has earned the right to be leading the line after a superb season for us. Holt will follow Lambert to Villa. Him and Bent up front would be a decent partnership for your lot providing Holt's season wasn't just a flash in the pan.

4 million is a lot of money for a 31 year old

Re: England squad predictions
If he gives you 2/3 seasons of 10-15 goals it's worth the outlay IMO. He won't be on big wages either.

Re: England squad predictions
I don't think we'll be signing a forward this summer unless it's on a free or we sell Bent or Agbonlahor. Lambert's departure hasn't been welcomed by Norwich and i can't see them wanting to sell their best players to us as well. Cole may in your opinion deserve to lead the line after his perfirmances last season but on the flipside his performances along with others was the reason why West Ham were relegated. Big Sam's job and reputation is on the line so he aint going to showing sentimentality. If he can improve that squad he will and i think if you had a poll of fans opinions ob who would they prefer then the majority would opt for Holt over Cole. It's a big summer for West Ham. There's a lot of that squad who aren't good enough and i reckon Allardyce will be getting his business done as early as possible.

Re: England squad predictions
Now Heskey's left haven't you only got Bent Agbonalhor and Weimann as recognised strikers?
I imagine Sam had his transfer targets handed to the owners as soon as the final whistle blew at Wembley. He knows exactly what it takes to establish the club in the Premiership and I think the board will do anything they can to get his targets in. They trust him entirely. But Cole is very much part of his plans, it would be foolish to completely disregard him after the season he's put in for us. I think the drop down was a real boot up his arse. Even when he wasn't scoring, he contributed in every single match he played, he works so hard for the team. I'll put a cyber pound on Cole starting the majority of our matches when he's fit.

Unless budget is very tight i think Lambert will be after a striker.. If Bent gets injured we would be screwed.. Can see him glogging Gabby if someone comes up with a reasonable bid..
