Michael Owen
Being reported that he will be released by ManU as his contract is up next month.
Would you have him in your squad? Maybe on a pay as you play type deal?

Nope, not at Villa, the problem for a smaller clubs is then it all becomes about Michael Owen been on the bench other than the rest of the team.

His injury record would worry me. We need reliable. Yes yes, I know we've got Carlton Cole....

I think any contract he's offered now would be pay as you play. I still think he's one of the best finishers in the league.

Re: Michael Owen
I agree. You can take a chance on a player from a lower division eg Baldock who'll cost a transfer fee plus wages to sit on the bench or you can take a proven goalscorer in Owen.

I don't expect he 'd want to come to us, anyway.

Neither do i to be honest. I think he'll want to stay up north. He's got 4 kids and they'll be settled in their schools, plus his interest in horses. I've got a feeling that we may see him at Everton.

He may go to Blackpool when they get promoted

OOPS!!! He's pulled a hamstring cleaning his teeth. OOPS!! His achilles has gone, making a cup of tea.
The blokes a liability. He should hang up his hamstrings and call it a day. He must have made bundles out of not playing.

How many games has RVP played in his 8yrs at Arsenal? Owen would be a good signing for your lot

I think they'll be looking at a younger name with the money they'll get from van Persie moving to City.

I don't know but I'd wager he's played more than Owen who's been a never present for his whole career.

Re: Michael Owen
On a pay per play basis, would be a no brainer, he will miss games, so be it. I would love him at Villa. Think Everton is good bet, but they have Jelavic now

Just less than 200. As Arsenal tend to play about 50 games a season, I make that a 50% appearance rate at best.

Re: Michael Owen
Just looked at both players:
Since 2004
RVP
Games 194
Averages out to 24.5 games per season.
Prior to that he played 61 in three years at Feyenoord
Total of 255 games in 11 yrs averaging out at
23.1 games per season over his career.
Owen since 2004
Games 143
Averaging 17.25 per season
Since 1997
354 games
Averaging 23.6 games per season
Now i'm not saying Owen is as good as RVP, but when you take into account that for the past three years RVP has played when fit whilst Owen has been a reserve then those stats suggest his fitness is mirrored somewhat by RVP. No one is suggesting that Owen will turn out 30 odd times a season but if you can get 15 games out of him then he's worth a pay as you play contract

I'd love to see him at the Villa Jak. We lost Bent to injury for the last two and half months of the season and he was still clear in the goal charts. Owen would get goals and goals win you points.

He's been a good player but his goals came with his sharp turn of pace over a few yards. That is no longer there and I would see him as more of a liabilty these days but each to his own.
