A new low?
EBJT no longer in the England squad, so who do we get to replace him? Ryan Effin Shawcross for Chrissake! Dumb & Dumber, Thick & Thicker - you want sh!te, we got it! Roy Hodgson just took a turn for the worst IMO.

An extremely limited player who doesn't deserve anything.

Disagree. Is it his ability that you are questioning or the fact he broke Ramsey's leg?

His lack of ability, actually. EBJT may have lacked pace (amongst other things missing) but he did have a certain commanding stature in defence whereas Shawcross has some sort of raw aggression and that's it. I've been trying to think of a worse England central defender from all the years I've ben watching football and I can't.

I think he's a decent centre half. Which five centre halves would you choose ahead of him?

Ferdinand, Jaglielka, Cahill, Smalling, Jones - but that's not really the point of my complaint. I mean, if England didn't have any/many competitive midfielders it wouldn't justify choosing Joey Barton would it? What I'm saying is whether we've got two, four or five decent central defenders Shawcross isn't one of them.

Smalling and Jones are both injured so are unavailable. Ferdinand i'd agree is a better player than Shawcross at the moment but Hodgson obviously doesn't want to consider him. I doubt Shawcross would be in if Smalling and Jones were available but they aren't so Shawcross deserves a go. Can't see why you've even mentioned Barton as there has to be twenty better central midfielders than him. If he was out performing the others then yes he too would deserve a call up.

Re: A new low?
JPR, you were asked a question on who you would pick ahead of him and answer with two players who are injured. What players would you currently have ahead of him who are fit?

I actually answered with five players, including Ferdinand and two who are injured, which leaves Lescott, Cahill & Jagielka ahead of Shawcross. I'd prefer Carrick to play centre-back (he is in the squad) if two centre-backs were suddenly not available - I don't think Shawcross is good enough and I'd feel embarrassed seeing him barn-storming around the pitch in an England shirt!
