England World Cup Squad
Which players deserve to go. Do you see there being any surprise inclusions?
Some of the rumours:
Carragher to be in squad: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8673706.stm
Players to be left out:
Chelsea winger Joe Cole is set to be left out of Fabio Capello's preliminary squad of 30 players for the World Cup. Gary Neville, Wes Brown, Joleon Lescott and Scott Parker will also miss out.

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry will miss the World Cup with ankle ligament damage - thereby possibly leaving the door open for Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

If Hargreaves gets in ahead of Parker, it'll be an absolute joke.

Re: England World Cup Squad
Hargreaves has the grand total of 37 seconds of club football in teh last 19 months. No doubt he is (or at least was) a top player but for him to be included goes against everything Capello has said about only picking players in form.Maybe he'll be included in the 30 so Capello can see him in two friendlies before deciding on his final 23? Anyhow, Joe Cole is a must pick IMO and as for Parker, he's had a very good season but for me he isn't international class.

Re: England World Cup Squad
QB, i think that Capello will use these games to look at Hargreaves, dont think he will make the final 23 as he wont be fit enough.
As for Parker, I would take him, better than Carrick and if Barry is injured then we need someone. I would also take Huddlestone, he has come on this season and looks a good player, once again, far better option than Carrick.

R.O.T, good afternoon.I'd take Carrick ahead of Parker as I think Parker would be a liability with the continental refs. The midfielders i'd select are:
Gerrard, lampard,J.Cole, milner, carrick, lennon, walcott and Adam Johnson, so there wouldn't be a place for Huddlestone. To be honest I wouldn't be too happy in having an untried central midfielder in the squad

Just seen the squad scroll across the top of BBC and I would agree with who has been picked.

Delighted to see Parker in there. Good god he's earned that spot.

Re: England World Cup Squad
Agree with the squad, Warnock definitely wont be going, probably neither will Dawson but I would take him instead of Upson on current form.
Like I said before, I would like to see Parker go, think QB is right and he could just end up giving away far to many free kicks but Carrick is just shite so I would take Parker instead of him.

Re: England World Cup Squad
While I agree with the majority of the players he has picked you have got to wonder why we are 3rd favourites to win it. The squad is hardly bursting with world class talent is it. One of our goalkeepers was relegated, the other was in a relegation battle all season and looked fecking dodgy at times while the 3rd has had a good season at a mid table club and probably won't be first choice. The defence is packed with players who have been injured all season. The midfield while it has some quality players they never seem to produce for country and upfront with have the team that limped to 6th place 3rd choice striker who never scores.
Quality....
Quality....

I know what you're saying avfc, third favourite seem a little optimistic, but I do think we'll do ok. We might not win but I don't think a semi-final is out of the question.

Re: England World Cup Squad
It's when you look at the 30 you realise how poor we are (in comparison to years gone by and to other country's current squads).
I know it's not PC to slag off the lads (yet again) and I know it's not their fault but honestly - World Cup semi-final with that lot? You're'avin a bubble!
Take out Rooney, StevieMbe (and that's only if he's in the mood) and, who? No-one else. The rest are a bunch of variously talented club players - nowt wrong with that but they're not gonna compete with your Spains, Hollands, Brazils, Argentinas (I'd like to think they'd compete with Germany) and perhaps a surprise African team ot two.
I know, we didn't have much hope in 1966 but we did have great players in key positions - goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack (although our great attacking player was replaced and another attacking player achieved greatness during the competition), plus a fair smattering of solid players. Now we've got potentially great players in midfield and attack only with, no doubt a fair smattering of solid back-up players, but it ain't enough.
Oh dear.

Not happy about Carragher's selection btw. Didn't he come out and say he didn't care about the England team?
