Wigan
Big game after such a good result on the weekend, need to take advantage and pick up 3 points tonight to move well and truly away from trouble, especially since Wigan will overtake us if they win.
Just need everyone to perform to the same level as saturday and we will win this, really get at them and Bent for a hatrick, I'm feeling lucky

Re: Wigan
Wonder if he will give Makoun a debut, think it more likely the Blackburn game at the weekend. Did you see Hogg has gone on loan to Portsmouth for the rest of the season, good experience.

I dunno, I think he might start him alongside petrov tonight.
Yeh hope he does well.

Re: Wigan
Who do you think he may leave out than AVFC? Cant see Downing being left out, maybe Gabby or Albrighton. We will have Heskey back on the bench as well after his suspension, reckon we will win 2-0

Re: Wigan
He will be tempted to bring Heskey back in the team no doubt as well, however, we won on the weekend so may not want to change a winning side.
Personally, think it will be a draw today, not the end of the world if we do draw but would love us to get a win.
My team would be -
...............Friedal.............
Cueller Collins Dunne Walker
.........Petrov..Makoun.......
Albrighton Young Downing..
..............Bent.................
Harsh on Gabby to be left out but he can play against Blackburn and Man U away, and we need to start rotating more. I know that Walker isn't a left back, however his positional sense isn't great at right back so I think his pace will more than allow him to play there. Plus I think if we play Clark at left back NZogbia will have a field day against him.

Big game this one. A couple of weeks ago we'd be thinking a draw would be a bonus. Now we must get three points and start our climb up the table.

Re: Wigan
All I know so far is Makoun is making his start in CM with NRC, and Nathan Baker is playing today? Any idea how good he is?

Re: Wigan
Good first half!
Bent had a good chance, Young played a 50 yard pass, pin point to Bent, who turned his defender but shot straight at the keeper. Good move.
Downing pissed me off, he ran down the wing after being put through by Young, but instead of squaring it to Bent who'd have scored (it was a tap in),he took the shot himself from a tight angle and missed!
Friedel made a great save, ball took a huge delflection but still managed to save it.
Makoun has impressed me, nothing spectacular but very, very composed on the ball. Young has been running this game though, all our attacking threat has come from him. Really playing well.

Re: Wigan
Half Time:
Some very good chances for Bent thought he was on for another. Gabby and Young pretty shite, Gabby totally non exsistant and a waste of a player. Downing not much better, ball retention is awful and I would sub anyone of those 3 for Albrighton very soon.
Makoun on his Villa debut, very tentative. Lots of short passing, always available but to nervous to try anything at the moment. Solid enough but playing it very safe.
Scrappy by both sides all in all, this is very much for the taking and I think GH needs to remind the players how big this match actually is.
Cmon Villa!

haha! just read yours Jay.
Talk about differing opinions on Young. I think virtually everything we do when Young is on the pitc somewhat goes thru him. Im seeing very little so far though. He has it in his locker though so we need something this half from him.

Re: Wigan
Apparently Young, Gabby and Bent all wanted to take the pen. Listening to radio and sounding as if we are doing well

Yeah they all walked towards it, but Young won it so he took it, quite right IMO! Young's captain today so he chooses :)

Well he's a great peno taker aswell. It's amazing what confidence can do, Gabby is really up for this game now.

Re: Wigan
Much needed 3 points! Told you Gabby and Young were shite, both subbed
Better for most of the 2nd half, glad to see Petrov on. But why we had to have a last 10 minutes like that is beyond me. The passing the composure goes out the fecking window and its back to the walls and hang on time.
Downing has had a shite January after a much improved season so far. Sort it!
Up the Villa!

Yeah, only after they both scored
Yeah but it woudn't be Villa if they didn't make the last 10 minutes of games unbearable to watch!
