Coventry Away
Time to get back to winning ways tomorrow at Coventry.
We've got a few players back and available for selection after missing the brave fight we put up against Chelsea earlier this week.
Calderwood, Carr and Murphy are still out injured so our defence will once again be understrength. Hopefully though, we'll have enough attacking options in midfield and up front to keep Cov penned in their own half for most of the game.
New boys Eric the Viking and Andros Townsend both looked decent against Derby - Townsend especially looked dangerous and I'm expecting them both to play tomorrow. Ramage should play also and Chris will probably bring Fahy back in at the expense of Jordan Mutch, whose had a couple of poor games recently.
The Blue Machine and 6,000 foot soldiers rolling into town on a Saturday morning will be too much for Cov to handle and they'll surrender without too much of a fight.
Coventry 1 - 3 Blues

Re: Coventry Away
That was disappointing, to say the least.
Crap first half, better second half. We had a few chances but Jordan Mutch getting sent off towards the end didn't help our search for a late winner. Too many players put in below par performances so I suppose a draw was all we deserved.
Leicester away next.

Re: Coventry Away
Seems like you lot have flapped it Tilts.. three draws in a row against struggling teams.. not good enough..
But i guess at the start of season you would've taken where you are right now..

Re: Coventry Away
Absolutely would have taken 7th at the start of the season. We've been doing far better up until now than I thought we would.
It's not even 3 draws in a row - it's a loss and 2 draws, against sides that we really should have beaten easily considering our form up until then. It should have been a comfortable 9 points but we've come away with only 2. Those 7 points will probably make all the difference at the end of the season.
I'm disappointed but not suicidal.

After the effort put it you lot would be disappointed if you missed out on the play offs..
Re: Coventry Away
This season has been about rebuilding and most Blues fans would tell you that we weren't expecting to be anywhere near the play offs. Of course the better you do, the expectation levels start to rise. If we end up top six, great. If we don't, I won't cry about it.

Nah, no excuses from me.
You must be pretty distraught at the way your season has gone though?

Like his team, he's going nowhere anytime soon.
Lerner can't afford to pay off any more managers.

The difference in finishing 15th and 7th is his pay off..

With your squad, 7th would have be an outstanding achievement. Villa are underachieving but not by that much.

Re: Coventry Away
Nothing wrong with our squad and nothing a decent manager who knows how to spot players cant achieve..
Take the top 6 out and the 4 shite at the bottom and the rest can finish anywhere depending on how good there manager is..

Re: Coventry Away
It's a far weaker squad than the Villa team that was challenging for 5/6/7th. I'm not saying McCleish is doing a good job, but I think you Villa fans have high expectations for a pretty average team.

Re: Coventry Away
Lost a couple of major players, but even so there still a lot of players in the team who was playing when we finished 6th, plus the addition of Bent and Nzogbia/Ireland who have come in for those who left, they might not be as good as those players but they are still good players which many would see in a top half side, therefore Villa really should be 8th/9th.

Who said we are happy with current team.. you always write without thinking.. the point is he is a SHIT manager.. look at Pardew and Newcastle.. they have brought in the right players and improved players like Collicini and suddenly there a very good outfit.. so it shows with the right structure it can be done.. the Prem is no great shakes right now.. so again i say with the right set up we could easily be 7-9th..

But you seem to be blaming the entire season on McLeish, his signings, and your fabled lack of scouting system. 7th would be a huge achievement with that squad.

Re: Coventry Away
No one has said that at all.. the whole point is a better manager would have us higher.. do Swansea and Norwich really have better teams then us..
The point is get someone better in and the compo to replace Mcliesh will be paid by finishing higher in the table..

Re: Coventry Away
There is 4 points between 8th and us. Newcastle have certainly over achieved, but have some good players now. There is much of a muchness between these teams, my main gripe with McLeish has always been his negative attitude to three games. I can take losing but not in that manner. We seem to have stumbled on Cuellar playing centre back at long last, Warnock finally seems to have got his head sorted and Ireland is showing his talent at times. We do have some excellent youngsters and McLeish is giving them a go. We have conceded so many silly goals this season, but hopefully that is being sorted now. We are nowhere near the standard of a few years ago, but that is not McLeish's fault
