It's been more than seven months I've not had a proper drink - got to wait until April next year (hopefully) before slipping back into "normal" mode, meanwhile, without the aid of alcohol - BRING 'EM ON

Meanwhile it's Barca on Tuesday. Time to wake up and will the real Alexis Sanchez stand up and play? Come on Arsenal!

Re: CL knockouts
Well, we're on the ropes (in terms of it now being a "knockout" competition) but no surprise really. Barca are easily a 2-goal-better team than most I'd say - their three attackers are at any rate, not so sure about their defence. We could (should?) have scored twice, they could have scored another couple so 2-4, 0-2 what's the difference? We'll go the their place and win 3-0 innit

I keep telling you that the Arse aren't good enough to win a European competition. Every year I tell you this. The other night showed why. Again.
Is it right that the Arse haven't got past the last 16 since 2010?

Sorry to disappoint you Tilts but The Arsenal have won two European competitions, it's just the Champions League that's proving difficult, but it'll come.

Certainly more "recently" than Birmingham City winning a European trophy.

Re: CL knockouts
Errrm I just checked for myself (as you didn't know the answer) and it would appear that you won the Fairs Cup in 1970 (well done) and Cup Winners Cup in 1994.
That's 1994, jpr. Nineteen-ninety-four. Last century, jpr. 22 years ago. Twenty two (22) years ago.........
So when I wrote:

I was not expecting you to refer to a competition that you won TWENTY TWO FECKING YEARS AGO!!!!

Ah but Tilts, that's The Arsenal. Rich in history and full of future promise. We've done it, we'll do it again is all I'm saying (and I was there in 1969-70 - a wonderful night at a terrific club)!

I'm sure it was a wonderful night, jpr.
The fact remains though, the Arse are nowhere near good enough to be taken seriously in Europe these days. Sorry, that's just a stone cold fact and you can take that to the bank.

Re: CL knockouts
Well, this is a week, eh? Can't beat anyone in the Premier League / FA Cup - now it's over to Barca to see what we'll get following our 2-0 loss at home. It could get truly horrible.......I almost don't wanna watch

Re: CL knockouts
Wow - I had a dream last night, we beat Barca! We were 3-0 up at half-time, all goals scored by Germans (I don't know one of the players, a young defender who looked a bit like John Snedden of old, or Ray Kennedy), BFG and Ozil. Then it was - "watch Barca come out second half and score a hat-full" but it didn't happen, we scored a fourth and then they got one back and it was a bit touch-and-go - they'd bought on Schweinsteiger as a sub (?) and he and Mascerano were kicking people all over the place but we held out. The stadium was silent except for the Arsenal fans - it was all a bit under-stated at the end - surreal - I know..............

Re: CL knockouts
Yes Schweinsteiger is at ManU but since this was a dream he turned up on the bench at Barca, along with a mystery German Arsenal player who scored a goal - it was a dream!
That's what dreams are for, eh? Oh, and no cheese.

Re: CL knockouts
Not all of 'em though! Where was that mystery German player who should've scored, eh? Where was BFG? I dunno, the reality was that - again - Barca are definitely a 2-goal better team than us (or most any other team on the planet) so even if we'd been given the pen, even if Alexis had been on target with that header Barca, no doubt would've turned up with another two goals to match it - they really are rather good (understatement). Oh well, perhaps next season - should we manage to pull off our customary top-four finish in the PL (by no means a given this year, apparently)!
