Neill is one of those players who manages to command a great wage without actually doing anything apart from being mediocre.Fair play to him, he's been getting away with it for years

He was linked to Athletico Madrid earlier this week.

According to The Sun that deal broke down at the last minute due to his wage demands.If that is true then i find it strange.Spain only have a 20% tax rate whilst he's shortly going to be paying 50% in England.Athletico must have been offering relatively low numbers

It's all a bit odd. He's starting a team back in Australia and I think he's after 2 more years. West Ham were only prepared to offer him a 1 year contract on a lower wage. Whilst I don't dislike him, I don't miss him.

it must've been a helluva difference in wages for him to turn down the chance to play in Spain and live in madrid.If he does end up at Sunderland then i can only imagine Athletico were asking him to turn out for free

Still, he's off our wage bill.
