Houllier's side lead the chase to sign striker Robbie Keane from Tottenham with the Irishman told he can leave Spurs in January.

Villa are also plotting a £7m move for Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia.

But Villa will part company with keeper Brad Friedel in January after the club did a U-turn over plans to give him a new contract.

Thomas 'the sicknote' Rosicky?
ffs.
N'zogbia would be class though. Would get some goals from midfield.

When you say fill you with excitement, do our new transferred players have to give you one first.
No wonder Lion was always moaning about our scouting and vetting procedure.

Listen Jay, if a Sicknote culture is good enough for 9.500 coppers, a huge precent of our police force then its good enough for Reo-sicky

Would not surprise me to see Friedel going, think he has looked quite iffy recently, though with my look a like Dunny in front of him ,who can blame him

Re: Villa transfer rumours
Probably there will be a massive jumping down the throat to this but consider this, Joleon Lescott, thinking his days as an Everton player not the recent period with Man City, he was excellent, strong and dominant, we need a good CB, Dunne looks also as though he's lost it, Cuellor is as good as gone.
Man City have already said he can go in Jan, that's it, lets get him and get him back to where he was, and do something about the Villa defence which is woeful

Re: Villa transfer rumours
I heard Shay Given may be interested in signing for Villa in January
Friedel, top class keeper, but getting lobbed seems to be his achillies heel. I was hoping Guzan would be able to step into his shoes soon and take on the reigns in goal. He's an excellent shot stopper, and hope he's learnt from Friedel how to command his area.

We are being linked with that Mexican keeper along with Man Utd and one or two others.
Friedal..........Houllier, don't think there is much love lost there, and he is getting on now, don't think Guzan would be enough as No 1, Given, class in his day but again spent a lot of time in and out of first choice.

Re: Villa transfer rumours
Jay, I dont think Guzan is the answer, good shot stopper but not commanding enough. Remember the Blackburn semi-finals. Think a new keeper will be coming in

Yes but Jay, he's shite at Man City, its happened to a lot of players there, classic huge squad, thing is he knows how to be a good player, which tells me he would get it back, and if as you say a Villa man, what can i say, sign him.

To be fair Lutes, we only see him very rarely in between his first team appearances...he doesn't look like the type to just be in that 'comfortable' zone. He looks like the type to try and improve his game, sure he wants to get the 1st team spot for the US national team. Maybe he's improved.

Re: Villa transfer rumours
You may be right Jay, but suspect Houllier dont rate him that highly.

Re: Villa transfer rumours
I'd need some convincing that Houllier rates anybody at Villa at the moment.

Surely it's up to the players to convince him.

Re: Villa transfer rumours
I agree, but in many cases managers come in with an agenda to completely rebuild a team, happened a lot.

I think he likes Barry "Xavi" Bannan.
