I think there must me more to it than that... Man City seem to have bought good players and dont seem to perform... Man Utd have a similar team to last year and the are crap in europe

Re: European Footy....
I've just watched Man U get comprehensively beaten by Athletic Bilbao, a team that lie in 5th place in La Liga some 30 points behind leaders Real Madrid after 25 games.
They passed the ball better, moved off the ball better and looked much fitter than United.
These Spanish teams can press the opposition, giving them no time on the ball, for the full 90 minutes. You have to be really fit to do that.
United tried hard but the speed of movement caught them out time and time again. They took the game to Man U and they couldn't cope with it.
There certainly seems to be a gulf in quality between the PL and La Liga.

Man United had an easy route to the final last year, and Man City are a team in progress.

Re: European Footy....
Spanish team all try and play the same way.. Possession football.. No Hoofing it up or direct stuff.. If as a player you do well you get a move to a better club and maybe eventually to Real or Barca..
Other countered try and emulate them to a degree..
The prem is exciting but it works differently. Direct teams. Less tippy tappy and more about getting the ball forward. It's what we've been taught since youth on the whole. It doesn't help when twats like Collymore on talk sport say Barca wouldn't finish top four in Prem and couldn't handle Stoke away. Like that's the litmus test of a team..
Hence why we have won fcuk all since 1966..

But if you watch the Spanish sides they do move the ball forward VERY quickly, not by hoofing it but by quick, well timed running off the ball. Athletic beat Utd tonight by pressing them and giving them no time when Utd had the ball then attacking at great speed when they were in possession. Utd just could not cope with the speed and amount of passing options Athletic had when they attacked.

Well I think that if they took a leaf out of most Spanish teams play books for this season they might do ok... Seems a lot of teams are taking points off them this season
