2011-2012 Empty 2011-2012

Revisited - overall I saw the season as a pretty poor one for The Arsenal but, having checked the "Goal-Of-The-Season" contenders we've certainly put away some blinders, especially RvP (v Everton, Liverpool & Tottingham) and Arteta.
Which made me think - there were some good moments too - at Stamford Bridge, at home to Tottingham and ManC - moments to remember.
Here's hoping we manage to keep the players we want to keep and sign those we need - when you consider the mess we were in at the start of the season it's a miracle we finished third and it'd be nice to think we can finally push on next season. There'll be ManC with their multi-millions, Chelsea too (if they convince any sane-minded manager to join them) plus the usual suspects but methinks we'll be up there.....................................

Didn't we beat Spurs, the champions elect, according to them. Very Happy
Didn't we give 'em a two goal lead only to knock 'em dead with a fab 5.
Happy days. cheers
A real achievement to finish 3rd from where we were.

No surprise, 10 players out injured not a single full back available. Shit happens. Very Happy

Not only were we woefully under-manned but ManU were rampant that day - a trait they were dismally short of as the season progressed - and we still could/should have scored four! Last season was strange in many ways but I'm thinking the likes of ManU and Chelsea have more to worry about than The Arsenal.

Man U had their weakest squad in years and still only lost the title on goal difference, and they have more to worry about than a team who wasn't even within touching distance? Very Happy

Jpr you are so one eyed its unbelievable Laughing

When you beat City you said you were on the up and the money bags for stumbling.. they went on to win the title..

Now you say Chelsea are not in good order.. yet they have won the FA Cup and the Champions league this season.. 2 more trophies then Arsenal have managed in the last seven years.. yes there in disarray i'd say Very Happy

Man U with one of there weakest squad lost the title on goal difference in the final minutes of the season and scored a record high number of points for a team finishing second.. in the last few years they have won titles and played in a number of Champions leagu finals.. both things Arsenal have failed to achieve.. so yes you are better off then all the above cyclops

I think Wenger shares your thoughts too.. hence why his stubborness not to buy a couple of players in season gone by has cost you trophies.. as an example M'vila of France has all the makings of a top midfeilder.. someone Wenger should be buying.. but will didther and when the price is too high will end up losing out..

I'll try.
Arsenal will have a squad strenghtened by Jack Wilshere and Lukas Podolski next season, that's not counting whoever else might be signed up. With last season's additions bedded in (as it were) we'll start off the campaign strong and will be a force to be reckoned with from the off.
ManU may well sign a few players too but IMO they are in something of a transition state although their last season's signings should also become more consistent next time around. I just don't see them being as strong a team - yes, they had some big wins last season and should, by their own standards have walked away with the Premier League but that is where the faults are, they're not a ManU of old.
Chelsea won the FA Cup and the CL - two trophies - but that's somehow in stark contrast to their miserable form, the fact that over the domestic season they could only finish 6th. OK they can go out and spend, spend, spend but I just don't see how they can turn their form around in the short term.
ManC will also, no doubt spend still more cash and whilst they've a squad capable of turning on the class I doubt that their rivals - Arsenal and ManU included - will be so inconsistent or benevolent next time around.
Basically, I suppose what I'm saying is that The Arsenal have the team spirit to match a capable squad to do serious damage next season. I'm questioning ManU's spirit right now, Chelsea will be a work in progress and ManC - well, who knows? They'd not have won the title last season if the competition hadn't kept failing, they might be stronger or they might not - but I'd not be putting money on them to finish up top next season.

So Man United will add to the 2nd best team in the Premier League, and that will make them weaker? scratch

I think you can forget about last season because none of the teams played as they can play on a regular basis - except perhaps ManC (TBH I don't feel I know enough about ManC - one minute they're outstanding, the next very ordinary so I don't quite see their status as a club right now, aside from the money of course). Arsenal's reasons for putting in poor performances are well documented and will not, IMO be repeated. ManU just seemed to run out of steam and Chelsea seemed to lose the plot completely. Yes, ManC finished top, ManU second, Arsenal third and that's the whole point. Arsenal finishing third after a near disastrous season shows just how weird things were. So I don't think last seasons's results or league positions are much to go by - it's next season that counts and, as I say, I think The Arsenal will be back with a bang!

3rd by 19 points is a more telling story of how far behind everyone else is to the Manchester clubs.
