'One mega money signing'

Daily Star on Sunday: Alex McLeish has indicated Aston Villa may make a major summer signing - despite the club's tight budget. Villa's American owner Randy Lerner has ordered under-fire McLeish to cut the first-team squad's excessive wage bill as soon as possible. But although financial resources are limited, the Villa boss is refusing to rule out splashing some serious cash come the end of the campaign.

Sunday Mirror: Alex McLeish has been given the backing of Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner to make one mega-money signing this summer if he wants to. Billionaire Lerner has ­promised McLeish he has his long-term full backing, despite the protests from a few fans planned for Villa Park today. The pair have held a series of planning meetings for next year, and while Lerner is ­sticking to his insistence that the club's wage bill must be cut he has made it clear he does understand the need for star names.

Sunday Mercury: Alex McLeish insists Aston Villa will be in a healthy enough financial position to sign star players again this summer. McLeish has been responsible for implementing a "no pain, no gain" approach to reducing the club's huge wage bill. But the Villa boss is convinced he'll get to a level where the claret and blues can once again attract and afford big players.

I think a CM of real quality is needed.

That's known to us Hammers as Sam Syndrome, a fondness for signing players you've worked with before.

He has constantly said he has no intention on wanting to leave and wants to stay at Villa.

Who knows if that is his true feelings but the club don't want to sell and I'm not sure anyone would want to bid enough for him.

Bent wants to stay as long as he's not forced out. I'd agree with Avfc, we need a top, top CM. We also need some fullbacks

Craig Gardner.

Probably 10M will mean a mega signing not 20M etc

Hopefully we will have a new manager in place by then.

it's west hams inabilty to score the goals from the numerous amount of chances that they are making thats making life difficult for sam.

If anything with tomkins playing the way he does, all ne needs is some body experienced enough and they would make a formidable combo and help green no end

It's very very inconsistent. The sheer amount of injuries we've got doesn't help. Also, Winston Reid. Still, so long as we're back in the Premiership at the end of the season, we could have Christian Dailly back as a centreback for all I care.

Richard Dunne is out for couple of months now, Clark is out for a while as well, so down to the bare bones now.
