Maybe that's how Walcott (and The Ox?) should be used, as impact players, coming on after half-time to put pressure on the opposing defenders. I'd be happy if we started off against France :
Hart;
Johnson, Cahill, Lescott (OK, it'll be EBJT but I can dream), Cole;
Milner, Gerrard, Parker, Young;
Carroll, Welbeck.
Get Carroll to work the French defence, bump 'em around a bit whilst Welbeck uses his speed and guile to draw them out of position; Young to drift, Milner to play deep but support attacks with Gerrard, Parker to compete for every ball - then at half-time or shortly thereafter bring on Walcott to use his speed in attack and The Ox to take on the "Rooney Role" - with perhaps Carroll and (whoever else is knackered) coming off. There you go Roy, the plan for Engerland's 1-0 against France. The French? They're good going forward but not so hot defensively (especially if Evra is playing) - we need to contain them and we'll get the goal. Thankyouverymuch!

You failed to mention Young tripping in the box!
Re: England line ups
Boring as hell match, England look a second rate outfit. I think Roy knows that and is setting up a team based on discipline and a strong defence rather than tippy-tappy ball playing which England just aren't capable of. Better to win a boring match 1-0 than lose an exciting one 3-2.

Progress already - England have been a third-rate outfit for a long time now, with one or two "stars" and a media image that defied belief. The only top quality Engerland have had these past years have been their fans!

Give the manager a chance FFS. If he makes us hard to beat, that will be an improvement

When Rooney is available, he will come in for one of the wingers with Young moving there and Rooney off the stiker.
Sounds like you picked it the midfield right RoT. Not sure about Milner on the wing 'meself like' but hope he puts in a shift.

Re: England line ups
Rumours that the Ox is starting, and Welbeck over Carroll. So maybe...
Hart
Johnson Terry Lescott Cole
Ox Parker Gerrard Walcott
Young
Welbeck
Loads and loads of pace, and a good solid base.

Milner will be playing instead of Walcott and will be on the same wing as Ribery I would think. Decent enough team though to give it a go, hopefully we will be organized and try and not give the ball away stupidly.

Re: England line ups
We'll sit back. No more trying to play continental football with technically inferior players, I think Roy is the first manager we've had since Sven who knows the limitations of the English players. Reckon this'll be 1-0 either way.

Agree we will sit back which is our best chance, but we still need to make sure we don't give the ball away needless like we have done in the past as it just invites pressure.

Re: England line ups
Luckily with no Carroll we don't seem to have any hoof targets. All of the midfield are tidy on the ball, but I think Young will probably drift out wide a lot so fast balls down the channels will be the order of the day. Fucking hell we miss Rooney..

I can't remember the last time he did anything good for England, I'm not to bothered by his absence.

Re: England line ups
The Ox is starting..
I still would've preferred a solid two in middle with Young on wing and Gerrard behind Wellbeck..
MASSIVE game.. we need to ideally finishes top of the group and avoid Spain..

Re: England line ups
If we quality, looks like we'll have Spain or Italy so no matter what we'll have to be flawless in the quarters.

Re: England line ups
You seriously blaming Hart for that? He was unsighted by Parker and Gerrard. Gerrard also turned his back but both he and Parker were a good 10yrds too deep. Welbeck needs to liven up sharpish. He's been a passenger thus far and Johnson needs to remember that he's there to defend
